Self Catering Accommodation

Leopard Suite

The convenience of being independent without sacrificing luxury.

The suites are romantically decorated with a canopied bed and high quality linen and soft furnishing. Electric blankets.

There is a lounge area with fire place, dining area and a tiny fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with huge bath (some of which are spa baths) and separate loo.

Sleeps 2, there are 6 Leopard suites.

The Zebra Cottage

Zebra Cottage is a luxurious, thatched lodge of 140 square meters with a large veranda overlooking the trout dam and wonderful views of the gorge. The cottage comprises an open plan lounge, dining area, fully equipped kitchen and cloakroom.

There are two bedrooms with full bathrooms en suite and a loft room which can either serve as a family room or a further bedroom to sleep 2.

Sleeps 4 - 6.

Kingfisher Cottage

A luxurious, thatched lodge situated on the bank of the Komati River.

The house comprises an open plan lounge, dining area, fully equipped kitchen and downstairs cloakroom.

Two bedrooms with full bathrooms en suite and a separate room with 4 bunk beds suitable for children.

Sleeps 8.

Yellowwood Cottage

A huge house nestled between the kraans and the river, comprising large lounge with bar and fire place, separate baronial dining room also with fire place. Large, fully equipped kitchen/family room with guest loo and scullery.

Four spacious bedrooms with bathroom en-suite, 3 of which have double beds and one with 2 single beds. A Loft room also has 2 single beds. 2 braai areas, one set against the kranz and the other overlooking the river.
Very private.

Firefly Cottage

The large bedroom has a full en-suite bathroom.

The living room comprises lounge area, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. An alcove off the living room has 2 full size day beds (not really suitable for a couple).

Additional features are DSTV, under floor heating, high quality linen and soft furnishings, The private patio has a braai area with an excellent view of the gorge.

Sleeps 2 Adults and two children

Butterfly Suite

The large bedroom with double bed and single bed and full en-suite bathroom.

The small living room comprises lounge area, dining area and fully equipped kitchen.

Additional features are DSTV, under floor heating, high quality linen and soft furnishings, The private patio has a braai area with an excellent view of the gorge.

Sleeps 2 Adults and one child.

RIVER LODGE - LUXURY SUITES Four stunning double suites comprising bedroom with lounge area.

These suites are situated at the water's edge of the Komati River and the views are magnificent.

Horse riding and game viewing close by. Plenty of indoor games, books, puzzles and quality magazines. Explore the beautiful scenery and mountains on our quad bikes!
Please note that the quad bikes are not ridden anywhere near the lodge and so will not disturb the peace and quiet.Drink sundowners on the veranda or just relax in a hammock and do absolutely nothing….

WEATHER

Summer months are November to April.

December, January and February can be very hot - up to 30 degrees C during the day.

November, March and April are warm during the day but get cooler in the evenings.

This is a summer rainfall area with most rain falling from November to January.

Winter months are May to October

The winter is generally mild during the day (about 10 - 15 degrees C) but the nights get very cold.

The coldest months are June to August, sometimes reaching -1 degrees C at night.

There is no rain during the winter and snow is unlikely.

The cosy pub and restaurant offers a good selection of South Africa’s favourite foods and wines. Light pub meals and salads are also available. Join us for big sporting events on TV or enjoy sundowners on the veranda overlooking the Komati River.

Breakfast room / Intimate Dining

A log fire, the smell of frying bacon and toast. That's breakfast at Komati Gorge after a peaceful nights sleep when all you can hear are the birds and the flow of the river. You can also book this room for intimate or private dinners. Seats 12.

Lounge

Enjoy a complementary sherry while you curl up in front of the fire on a cold winter’s night or relax in the cool of the thatch on a hot summers evening.

Conference facilities

Conference facilities for up to 30 guests on a day visit . Sleeping room for 16 persons not sharing or up to 20 people sharing. The restaurant can arrange all meals and teas.


Directions

From Nelspruit and Kruger Park - Proceed on the N4 to Machadodorp. Turn left off the highway at the second turnoff, into Machadodorp. At first stop sign (BP garage on right) turn right and you will be on the R36 to Carolina. Carry on for about 25 kms until you see the “Doornkop” sign. Turn left onto dirt road. From Johannesburg and Pretoria - Proceed on the N4 past Witbank and Middelburg. After about 50km past Middleburg, look out for sign to Carolina and turn right. Proceed to the second stop street in Carolina. Turn left into Kerk straat (BP garage on left). It becomes the R36 to Machadodorp. After 25km look out for the “Doornkop” sign and turn right onto dirt road. (If you miss the turn off to Carolina, carry on to Machadodorp and follow the directions as above) • Proceed on dirt road for 4.6 km until you see the large green sign to Komati Gorge. Turn left here. If you get to Doornkop, you have gone too far! • You will immediately cross a low water bridge across the Komati River. Proceed for a further 2 km. You will pass through big silver gates marked “no admittance” – Don’t worry carry on! • Cross a second bridge. Immediately thereafter the road forks – Keep left as indicated by the sign to Komati Gorge. • Proceed for a further 3 kms. You will go up a hill and thereafter down a steep concrete road. Komati Gorge Development is at the bottom of the hill. The restaurant is on your left and reception
