Attractions

  •  Loskop Dam: The third largest reserve under the management of Mpumalanga Parks Board.
  • Botshabelo: Many buildings of this historical village have been restored, including Fort Merensky.
  • Ndebele Village: The village is an extension of the Botshabelo Museum complex, showing the traditional culture still practiced by these hospitable people.
  •  Meyers Bridge: A national monument, dating to 1896. One of the few remaining old stone bridges built by the Transvaal Republic.
  • Dutch Reformed Church: Built in 1890, it has served as the focal point for the district ever since.
  •  Old Middelburg Railway Station (1890): Although the station had been in use since 1890, it was only completed in 1894.

ACTIVITIES & ATTRACTIONS

About 10km from the guest house is the historical village, Botshabelo. The word means “place of shelter”. The Town Council built a traditional, open air museum at Botshabelo and Ndebele people still live there today, in the traditional cultural villages. The village is worth a visit.

Middelburg has a few places of interest to visit. Proclaimed a historical monument, the White Church is a true landmark in Middelburg, due to its size and architectural design. British soldiers used it during the Anglo Boer War, which explains why it did not get damaged like so many other churches during that time.

The old Middelburg Railway Station was built in 1890 when Paul Kruger and Portugal entered into an agreement to develop a railway line between Pretoria and Maputo. The railway station is still in use today.
