Seventeen kilometres down the pass lies Crystal Springs Mountain Lodge, a picturesque resort situated on 5 000 hectares of pristine countryside. Beautiful gardens combine with exquisite natural scenery to create a haven incorporating spectacular cliffs and gorges, pine and indigenous forests, sweeping views, murmuring streams, plunging waterfalls and cool, blue pools. Birdlife is plentiful and wild animals such as zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, antelope, jackal and leopard populate the nature reserve. Man-made facilities complement nature with facebrick and thatch, bordered by colourful flowerbeds and ornamental ponds. Crystal Springs is conveniently situated to Mpumalanga s attractions - 9 km s from historic Pilgrim s Rest - where you can eat el fresco, wander around quaint shops, play gold or do a tour harking back to gold rush days, including an opportunity to pan for gold. Further afield lie the tranquil forestry towns of Sabie and Graskop, surrounded by tall pine trees and plunging waterfalls such as MacMac, Lone Creek or Bridal Veil Falls. Not far from Graskop is the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, affording magnificent views into the Lowveld, and the interesting rock formations of the Bourke s Luck Portholes. Self-Catering
Accommodation at Crystal Springs Mountain Lodge consists of 164 thatch lodges, sleeping 2, 4, 6, or 8 people. Lodges are serviced daily and fully equipped for self-catering (or you can eat in the restaurant). Each lodge has satellite television and M-Net and all accommodation overlooks sweeping Escarpment views. Towels and basic toiletries are provided. Larger units have washing machines and tumble driers.

Facilities at the Lodge
Facilities include four swimming pools (two heated) in delightful gardens, floodlit tennis courts, a squash court, mini - golf and a games room with table tennis and other indoor games. Then, there's a children's playground, a kiosk/shop, restaurant-cum-coffee shop and the Crystal Tavern. Adults looking for tranquility and relaxation will find it at The Clubhouse - strictly for over-16's. The complex houses a health spa (indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, sauna, sun deck, gym), a beauty salon and a TV lounge.

Nature Reserve
A 2000-hectare nature reserve adjoins the resort - a grassland paradise encompassing rolling hills, cliffs, gorges, waterfalls and streams. The reserve is stocked with wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, jackal and antelope. Morning and evening game drives are offered. There are also five self-guided walks within the reserve and a trout dam to enthrall fly fishermen (bring your own tackle). There's also a Boma - perfect for dinners under the stars.
