AttractionsGraskop (grassy hill) is on the edge of the Klein Drakensberg escarpment, with spectacular views of the lowveld almost 500 metres below. Like many towns in the area, Graskop originated as a gold mining camp in the 1880's and still has something of the feel of a Wild West town. Graskop is centrally situated close to all the tourist sites, attractions and activities in the area. This popular tourist route is known as the "Panorama Route" which includes quaint little towns like Pilgrim's Rest, Sabie, and Hazyview. These towns are all en-route to the famous Kruger National Park. Alternatively, the LOWVELD offers places of Wild animal and bird rehabilitation Projects. Interact with Elephants or feed a Vulture while it perches on your arm. See Eagles and other Raptor bird species at close range, while 'Bigboy', the huge male lion roars in the background. See Hippos feeding on the grass alongside your table along the Sabie River at night. We are endeavouring to provide our Guests and Public with Day Tours both to the Panorama Route area and the Kruger National Park as of early 2009. This will be with a THETA accredited South African Tour Guide. Do enquire on this availability in need. Open Vehicle Tours can also be arranged for day trips into the Kruger Park. This is a worthwhile experience. Once again, do make sure that you have a reputable Tour Guide on this trip, as this will make your experience to the Kruger Park so much more valuable. The Kruger National Park has just celebrated it's 110th year of existance. Mozambique is also close by should this be one of your desired destinations for fishing or an interesting scuba diving experience!
Graskop is a good place to take a break from your Panoramic drive, as there are several tempting aromatic coffee shops like the famous Harries Pancakes where you can lunch. The gold mining days are long gone, and Graskop is now home to a thriving timber industry. The Graskop timber plantations are some of the largest man-made forests in the world. You cannot fail to notice endless rows of Pine and Eucalyptus trees as you cruise the hills and valleys of this beautiful area.
